What is Giloy?
Giloy also known as Guduchi in hindi is a herb known for immunity often also known as Amritavalli or called ‘the root of immortality’. It has beautiful heart shape leaves (PS: one of the Satmya logo elements is the giloy leaves!) In Ayurvedic medicine, it is considered to be one of the three Amrit plants, revered for its medicinal benefit for centuries, the benefits of giloy have also been approved by the FDA.
At our farm we grow two variants of giloy; neem giloy and amla giloy. A climber plant, giloy takes on the added properties of its host plant so the giloy on the neem tree is considered to be the most medicinal variant of giloy. While the one on the Amla tree has the properties of the host Amla tree.
Some of its myriad benefits:
- Antibacterial, Antiviral, Antiinflammatory in nature, helps in relieving pain, inflammation and in reducing fever
- Helps control sugar levels in the body and aid in digestion
- Excellent remedy for stress and anxiety
- Powerhouse of antioxidants, helps remove toxins from the body and purify the blood
- Effective against respiratory infections and helps keep seasonal infections at bay
- Boosts overall Immunity
In general, always consult your doctor who knows your medical history before consuming. People with auto-immune diseases or prone to it should avoid Giloy because of its properties to trigger an immune response in the body. Pregnant and lactating mothers should also avoid because there is not enough research in this field.
A new batch with fresh NeemGiloy, Parijat Leaves and Shyama Tulsi is made every week at our farm. Try out a jar this week and let us know how you and your loved ones like to consume it throughout the day!
